WHAT TIME IS IT? Yeah, it is time for the band biography of
the week! This week’s will be about EVANESCENCE!!!!!!
I LOVE this band so much. At the moment, I’m addicted to almost all of the
songs on their album, Fallen. In an
older post, I mentioned that “Missing” was one of my favorite songs and that is
still true. Also, if I had to pick my top three from the Fallen album, I would pick “Going Under”, “Bring Me To Life”, and
“Haunted”. These are my top three at the moment anyways. Whoops, NOW it’s time
for the biography!
Evanescence
Biography:
This awesome band was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1994.
The founding members of Evanescence were Amy Lee and Ben Moody. Ben was the
guitarist, Amy was the lead singer. Soon, William Boyd, Rock Gray, and John LeCompt
joined the band. William was the bassist, Rock was the drummer, and John was a
guitarist. Later on, Ben Moody was replaced by Terry Balsamo. Evanescence
wasn’t the band’s original name, and it took a while for any name to stick. For
a short while it was Stricken and then it became Childish Intentions.
Eventually, Evanescence was the name that stuck (obviously). Originally, people
tried to categorize this band as a Christian band because of the message that
their lyrics delivered. Around the 2000’s, they were relabeled as a Goth rock
band, but Evanescence refused to be categorized. Each song has its own style, like the
haunting, slow style of “Missing” and “Home”. Then, there are songs like “Bring
Me To Life” and “Going Under” that change tempo and build intensity as the song
progresses. Speaking of which, “Bring Me To Life” was the band’s debut single.
This single was number five in the Billboard Hot 100, and it was featured in
the 2003 movie, Daredevil. After
that, Fallen, released in 2003, came to be number THREE on the
Billboard Hot 200. They were considered for the award of Best Album of the Year
in 2004, but instead they received the Best New Artist award. From this
successful time, many new albums have been released, band members have come and
gone, and other awards have been won. Evanescence is still together, and they
are still producing AMAZING music! I can’t wait to hear more seeing as they are
my favorite band at this moment in time!
