One of the Original Alternative Bands…The Cure!
The Cure was originally called the Easy Cure. It was formed in 1976 in Crawley, England by Robert Smith, Michael Dempsey, Lol Tolhurst, and Porl Thompson. Robert Smith is the lead singer and a guitarist, Michael Dempsey is the bassist, Lol Tolhurst is the drummer, and Porl Thompson is also a guitarist.  In 1978, the band changed their name to The Cure and Porl left the group. A year later in May, their debut album, Three Imaginary Boys, was released. They toured all over the UK and at the end of the year, Michael left the band. Simon Gallup, bassist, and Matthieu Hartley, a keyboard player, joined The Cure shortly after Michael left. In 1980, they released Seventeen Seconds, and toured the world. Matthieu left shortly after, and The Cure became a trio yet again. Over the next several decades, members left and new ones joined. The band is STILL together after all of this time, even though the members have changed drastically. This April, they will be flying to Rio in order to perform for eight days! The Cure currently consists of Robert Smith, Simon Gallup, Jason Cooper, and Roger O’Donnell. Robert Smith is the only founding member of The Cure that has stayed with the band for all of its existence. The Cure is still performing, and I can’t wait to hear more of their music!
